CAN BEANS REALLY MAKE YOU TALLER?
Growing up in Nigeria, you've probably heard this before...
"Finish your beans if you want to be tall!"
Some of us forced down beans, expecting to wake up looking like a basketball player.
But does beans really increase your height?
The answer is... not exactly.
Your height is determined mostly by your genes.
In simple terms...
If your parents are naturally tall, there's a higher chance you'll be tall too. If they're shorter, your genes play a big role in that as well.
So, beans won't suddenly transform you from 5'4" to 6'2".
But don't abandon your plate just yet!
Beans are one of the healthiest foods you can eat.
They're packed with:
Protein for building muscles and body tissues.
Iron to help prevent anaemia.
Zinc and folate, which support normal growth and development.
Fibre, which keeps your digestive system healthy and helps you stay full for longer.
???? So what actually helps you reach your full height potential?
Eating a balanced diet.
Getting enough sleep (this is when growth hormone is released the most).
Staying physically active.
Getting enough calcium and vitamin D for healthy bones.
Think of it this way...
Your genes are like the blueprint of a house.
Good nutrition—including beans—provides the building materials.
Without good materials, the house may never reach its full potential.
Health Lesson
Beans don't contain a magical "height vitamin."
But they help your body grow and stay healthy, allowing you to reach the height your genes have already planned for you.
So yes...
Eat your beans.
Not because they'll make you the tallest person in your class...
But because your body will thank you for it.
