Triumph in the Pool! NMU Clinches Medals at NUGA 2025

Okerenkoko, Delta State – History was made today as the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, celebrated a phenomenal debut outing at the prestigious Nigeria Universities Games (NUGA) 2025 swimming competition.

In their very first appearance at the NUGA games, NMU's dedicated swimming team showcased remarkable prowess, securing a total of three medals:

  • 1 Silver Medal

  • 2 Bronze Medals

This spectacular achievement sets a powerful precedent for the university's sporting future and has ignited great enthusiasm within the NMU community.

Guiding the Cadets to Glory

The victorious team was led by the dedicated and inspiring Chief Coach Oringo Binapado, who is also the Acting Director of Sports for the university. His leadership and training were instrumental in preparing the cadets for this significant victory.

Institutional Support and Encouragement

The entire NMU management is ecstatic about the team's success. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Flora Tobolayefa Oluwafemi, and the Registrar, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, have both expressed immense pride in the athletes.

"We are so incredibly happy for this success and victory," said a representative from the management. "This achievement not only celebrates the hard work of our cadets and coaching staff but also encourages them to strive for even greater victories in the days to come."

The NMU community eagerly anticipates more outstanding performances as the NUGA competition continues. The swimming team will be back in the pool tomorrow, and the university expects to see even more medals added to their debut tally.

Stay tuned and support our cadets!
