The opening ceremony of the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games kicked off today at the University of Jos, Plateau State.

The event brought together thousands of student-athletes from over 70 universities across Nigeria, including the University of Africa Toru-Orua, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, and Kano University of Science and Technology, Maritime University Okerenkoko,among others.

The ceremony marked the beginning of a two-week sporting extravaganza, featuring 23 sports, including football, basketball, athletics, and scrabble. The games will run from November 6 to 16, 2025, with athletes competing for top honors in their respective disciplines 

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, welcomed participants and spectators, assuring them of a memorable and high-quality NUGA experience. He highlighted the university's efforts to provide state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure to support the games 

The 27th NUGA Games promise to be an exciting event, showcasing the talents of Nigerian university students and promoting sports development in the country. The University of Port Harcourt is the defending champion, having won the last four editions
