The opening ceremony of the 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games kicked off today at the University of Jos, Plateau State.
The event brought together thousands of student-athletes from over 70 universities across Nigeria, including the University of Africa Toru-Orua, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, and Kano University of Science and Technology, Maritime University Okerenkoko,among others.
The ceremony marked the beginning of a two-week sporting extravaganza, featuring 23 sports, including football, basketball, athletics, and scrabble. The games will run from November 6 to 16, 2025, with athletes competing for top honors in their respective disciplines
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, welcomed participants and spectators, assuring them of a memorable and high-quality NUGA experience. He highlighted the university's efforts to provide state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure to support the games
