The Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, Delta State, on Thursday, December 5, commissioned a modern 46-room students’ hostel donated by the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The facility, which accommodates 96 students, marks a significant step forward in addressing the institution’s accommodation challenges in Kurutie campus.

Speaking at the commissioning in Kurutie campus, the Vice Chancellor of NMU, Prof. Emmanuel Adigio, expressed gratitude to SPDC and NNPC for their support. He described the facility as a timely intervention that will ease the university’s accommodation difficulties.

Mr. Igo Weli, GM Corporate Relations at SPDC, stated via a virtual platform that the donation reflects SPDC’s and NNPC’s commitment to supporting education and development in the Niger Delta. The hostel, he noted, is equipped with electricity, a water treatment plant, recreational spaces, and secure access controls.
