New England manager Lee Carsley speaks on Greenwood return after 4 years away from the national team

Despite a strong start to his career at Marseille, Mason Greenwood is not currently under consideration for an England call-up, according to interim manager Lee Carsley.

The 22-year-old forward has been in fine form since his summer move from Manchester United, scoring five goals in his first three games for the French club.

Greenwood’s Journey Since Leaving Manchester United

Greenwood, who last played for Manchester United in January 2022, moved to Marseille after a turbulent period.

His arrest on charges of attempted rape, controlling behaviour, and assault in early 2022 led to his absence from the team, but all charges were dropped in February 2023.

After a loan stint at Getafe, he secured a £26.6m move to Marseille as reported earlier by Sportsbuddy.

No Immediate Return to the National Team

The forward earned his sole England cap four years ago in a match against Iceland, but a lot has transpired since, leading to his move to Marseille.

"According to Metro Sports, when asked about Greenwood’s potential availability for England, Carsley was clear: “Mason wasn’t a player that we can consider… I’m aware of how he’s doing, but he wasn’t under consideration."

Despite his impressive form, Greenwood’s international future remains uncertain, and there’s no indication that a recall is imminent.
